GSCOPE MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of GSCOPE is multi-faceted: to provide graduate students an opportunity to present, revise, critique, and collaborate on academic work at the graduate student level; to highlight new but relevant content in the field of philosophy and education; to engage an educational space where graduate students dialogue with peers; to promote interaction between graduate students and professionals in the field of philosophy, education, and other disciplines; to cultivate professional leadership dispositions in graduate students in the field of philosophy of/and education; to establish and strengthen connections between post-secondary schools and programs of education.
GSCOPE Objectives
TO provide a practical platform for graduate students to practice academic skills such as public speaking, fielding and responding to questions, and commenting on scholarship in a public forum.
TO provide collaborative opportunities with professional members of the philosophy and education community.
TO provide a venue to expand the critical role philosophy plays in educational scholarship, teaching practice and scholarship.
TO emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of philosophy and education. Philosophical methods and sources are used in, and in conjunction with, cultural studies, women’s studies, political theory, postcolonial critique, and more.
TO meet, collaborate with, and network with graduate students interested in the field of philosophy and education.
TO provide a venue for graduate students to take exclusive responsibility for designing and managing a conference.
TO provide a platform for graduate students to critique and revise possible submissions for the PES annual conference held in November.
